We are looking for an Assistant Editor! If you'd like to join our team, check out the information about the position below.
Responsibilities
WCC Editorial Assistants (EAs) are responsible for collaboratively copy- and design-editing accepted contributions with attention to style, accessibility, readability, and usability. EAs will receive on-the-job training. The average time expectation is 5-7 hours/week; EAs can expect up to 10 hours per week during twice-a-year heavy production cycles. EAs are required to communicate via a variety of online media (email, video conferencing), depending on the task, and must meet strict publishing deadlines that the Editors outline at the beginning of each production cycle.
Qualifications
- initiative to learn new technologies and programs, as needed for editorial purposes
- knowledge of scholarly, pedagogical fields related to the humanities and social sciences broadly
- prior editorial experience with a (digital or analog) scholarly journal or peer-review systems preferred, or a willingness to learn quickly
- track record of quick, efficient, and professional online communication practices
- ability to collaborate with others in online environments
- ability to work flexibly and quickly within overlapping publication timelines
- experience editing audio and video a plus
Candidates who have a research and/or pedagogical agenda related to this position’s responsibilities would be a big bonus, but that qualification is not required. Research and teaching based on your WCC work is encouraged.
Compensation
This position is a full-time RA line funded through UIUC’s College of Liberal Arts and Science and the Department of Latina/Latino Studies. Graduate students appointed to the position will be expected to work hours and meet responsibilities commensurate with those outlined by the Graduate College and the University’s agreement with the Graduate Employment Organization.
